Sexism and toxic positivity on Tik-Tok [Tik-Tok video and dating related]

I don’t really think there’s a positive or negative outlook. I think it’s just a very clear cut one. If you make statements like “pretty girls are now dating ugly guys” then you’re degrading people for their looks. Ugly is a term that’s already negative.

As you said if looks are no longer important, then what exactly was the reason for using the word ‘ugly guys’? That clearly shows that it means something to them. The person who posted the video observed that ‘pretty girls are dating ugly guys’ and should do better than dating the ugly guys (which is at least emphasised in the comments that ugly SG guys have nothing to provide) That is the issue

I think it encourages any person who feels they aren’t attractive, to be not good enough for anyone (regardless of gender) because then you would have people like the video poster saying “look at this good looking person dating an ugly person” the emphasis is on the looks itself, not someone’s personality.
