Should I go to AA meetings?

So, here's my opinion.

There is no such thing as alcoholism, medically speaking. Although there are many types of alcohol use disorders described in the DSM-5, the "disease" of alcoholism is a spiritual issue. If my point seems pedantic, hang with me for a minute.

AA's literature describes eight characteristics of the alcoholic condition. Those are selfish, self-centered, irritable, restless, discontent, childish, grandiose and emotionally sensitive. All of the solutions offered in AA literature are aimed at solving these problems. In fact, you won't find one word in the Big Book or the Twelve and Twelve that tells you how to stop or moderate drinking. Go figure.

If you have a desire to stop drinking, and you identify with some or most of the eight characteristics, go to a meeting. What could it hurt?
