Since you can sometimes "take control" when you're very drunk: what happened?

There was a time when I got drunk,
But somehow I managed to stay in control.
I was at a party with my friends,
And the drinks were flowing like a river, never to end.
I knew I had to be careful,
So I sipped my drinks, not wanting to be too bold.
But as the night went on,
I found myself feeling a little more bold.
I let myself have a few more drinks,
And I started to feel that familiar sway.
But instead of losing control,
I somehow found a way to stay on track and not lose my goal.
I ended up having a great time,
But I still managed to be responsible and kind.
It was a night to remember,
And I'm proud that I didn't let the alcohol steal my thunder.
