Snow White, Digital Art, 1920x1080

A kilt is not considered offensive. But if you were to make them a drunk unintelligible redhead who likes to fight, then it might be a bit offensive, even if you know Scots who fit the bill. Because it's a stereotype. You have to understand the common visual vernacular to make art and illustrations. You have to know when someone looks at something, generally what will they associate it with? That's how you can effectively support your message. It's just how symbolism works.

Similar to the "Mamie" imagery of old Mrs. Butterworth or cartoons depicting black people with big red lips or always talking in a southern uneducated accent--while some people may have fit the stereotype at some point (or still do, since there are lots of southern black grandmas who still act like that), it doesn't mean it is not considered a generally offensive way to depict black people.

I take no personal offense to what OP drew. I just suggested that "Chinese, Japanese... it all looks the same" is not a very good rational for ignorantly mixing up genres. I've done my fair share of studying asian art history and there IS a difference, and it can easily be seen by anyone who knows more about it.

There's also a difference between drawing someone in a rice hat because it is historically accurate and using a rice hat simply to show that they are asian. Do you really not see that difference?

It's a subtle, insidious form of racism, but it is there. And while it might not upset or offend, it adds to a bigger picture of how "all asians/asian culture looks alike" and can be traded back and forth and mushed together in one giant ball of "otherness."

Perhaps you should attach yourself to the internet and do some research on that.
