For those of you who like your job, what do you do?

No, I don't have any of that. I'm in house though. External consultants probably have a different perspective, But, traveling is absolutely not required for the security field unless you're doing physical tests. Everything can be done remotely, and lots of travel signals a poor company culture IMO. Hours are variable, but overall my WLB is great. Some weeks I do put in a lot of hours, but it's only when things are busy. It's kinda hard to quantify how long I work for since I do some off hour stuff too and it's not always a straight 9-5(sometimes I run tests off hours then take it easy during the day). I think external consulting companies are getting slammed right now due to high demand. And as always, there's going to be variability between companies, but reasonable work life balance is definitely possible in the field, you just have to be careful when searching for jobs.

There is report writing for any testing position since you have to be able to present findings to people, but I wouldn't say it makes up that much of my job. For the most part, it's seeing how much bad stuff I can find. Sometimes I'm testing and doing a full report write up for an app, other times I'm just scanning/looking around the environment to see what bad stuff I can find.
