"Some men are alive simply because it is against the law to kill them." - E. W. Howe

You don't even have to attempt suicide. They'll lock up anyone who even admits in confidence to "suicidal ideation" (thinking about it). Shit, you don't even have to be thinking about it, Someone just has to convince the administrators to have you locked up. Once the people in the system are convinced by the hear-say, they don't bother to get your side of the story until after they've already decided to medically detain you. It happened to me. And once you're essentially deemed "crazy" there's nothing you can say to exonerate yourself, no matter how sane you act and no matter how reasonable your statements, because it's a foregone conclusion where in their head they long-since preemptively judged you to be of such a depraved character that nothing you say could possibly be worthy of consideration. They treat innocent people like prisoners and it seems like all you can do is wait out the clock. It's pretty fucking eye-opening what people are willing to do just to "do their job" or "keep their job". Look up the Milgram experiment. Volunteers were willing to torture people in a "scientific experiment" just because a "scientist" told them to. Seems impossible until you watch the video of it. Most people don't believe they need to take moral responsibility for their actions as long as an authority figure is telling them what to do and telling them it's okay.

Warning, extremely disturbing video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdUu3u9Web4
