Why do some songs have weird BPMs? 138.5 instead of 140 straight for dubstep, etc.

Key is vastly more radically different than 1 bpm. Key dictates feelings and energy very distinctly, back in the old days, different scales actually did sound tonally different. And not to mention things like singer vocal ranges, synths pitches.

124-140 BPM. Ok. OBVIOUSLY 16 BPM is a big difference. Btw this is a bad example of the mindset I'm trying to attack, but I'll go on anyway.

So let's just put it this way, there will be nothing dictating that a Techno HAS to be 124 the lowest. It's diverse, that means there's many different kind of Techno, and we can easily tell too. But let's say for the faster technos, 135-140. There's a general understanding like the common standard is "137", what kinda of mind would, understanding that, make a 136 if majority are 137?

My main gripe comes from House and Dubstep. It is perfectly clear that Dubstep was 140 when it got popular, a lot of people quoted it that it was hard to miss. But still, some people insist of SWITCHING IT UP YO. The mindset of doing that just resulted in chaos where now we just play Dubstep at 140 anyway but there're 137, 142, here and there.

For house. I'm not very sure who told me this or how I got this idea but since like 15 years ago I always got the idea that 128 was the most popular standard for House because of the 1 minute thing. It all makes sense. But I guess people wanted to SWITCH IT UP YO too and now because of that, we have all sort of nonsense again.

The big jarring difference in Trance being 124-140 is the result of this. Which is a good thing actually, but if you look at the underlying mind set, it wasn't because of actual creativity. More to dump trying to stand out kind of behaviour. And it's not as if the different tempos of Trance could not have emerged from a more disciplined musician society.

If it were all different and somehow all musicians knew how to respect main standards, we would not have a vague definition of Trance being 124-140 BPM and no one having a clue what sub genre and feel actually belongs where. And the worst part is, it all doesn't even differentiate. It just made things more confusing and inconsistent. Rather, we would have a standard Slow Trance at 125, A-bit-slow Trance at 128, Medium Trance at 130, Fast Trance at 135, Hard Trance at 140. Actually it's kind of the case. But you know what I'm trying to get at, right now it's really hard to define off the bat what tempo Hard Trance is that it just blends under Trance, and then under EDM. You see, that's exactly what Dubstep was. From it's rebirth, it was publicly aware that it was 140. Then you saw people arguing about genres, be it Drumstep, etc. Because this exact culture was occuring. And then we finally accept Drumstep as its own thing ONLY because it was radically much faster than Dubstep. But the 139, 142 dubsteps are still existing, ruining the quality of definition little by little. When it could all be 140 without a hitch.

Like I said, it's understandable if its technical reasons for being 139, but I highly doubt, judging from the mindset of responses here. It's really more about being selfish, and not looking at all this as a bigger picture. We would not be so lost in genres if our music culture was different.

And lastly, I never expected the world to bend to me. I'm not adamant because I think I can actually change something, this is just a place for discussions. Only words matter, so I'm of course taking the only thing that matter and not just sucking it up because I'm a minority. I have the confidence that my views makes more sense. Albeit a controversial one, and I'm just voicing it out and showing you guys how stupid and blinded you are.

Just like how value and need of money has overtaken the world, you majority just accept it because thats the way it has become, so thats the way it has always been. While few people know it doesn't have to be. It's too late now, the world will forever be materially controlled. But that doesn't mean those who see past it should agree with the majority. We have the privilege to ridicule you guys.
