(Spoilers All) Episode 5x05 Sneak Peak

We got two love birds about 3 months ago. They were exactly the same as you have described in your first post, not hand trained, bought from a store, and not bonded. Have you clipped their wings? Do you let them out of their cages in the day time?

After a week when I first got them, I let them out of their cage in a small room. Obviously they flew away and were scared shitless and it was a mission for everyone involved, I let them do this a few times and only about once did they go back to their cages, the other times I was forced to chase them and pick them up with a towel to get them back in. It was very stressful for both me and the birds.

I decided to get their wings clipped, but unfortunately for me, by the wrong person. Which now means 1 of my birds has their wings clipped properly; he can fly but not very well. And the other one has most of a wing missing, and she is very scared and can't fly at all, she just falls to the ground and would hurt herself.

If you haven't, let them out somewhere parrot-safe, where they won't hurt themselves or get caught in an unsafe place. Let them come out and explore. Normalize their eating, let them have access to their food at breakfast, then at like 12 take away their food, then when you want them to go back in their cage(at like 5/6 or whatever, just put their food in. Now they'll either go in themselves, or if you put them back in, they'll be happy to be in their cage.

I put a perch near my computer, and they are happy to be based there when they're out of their cage. I tried for about 2 months to train them when they were on that and were together, i must have tried hundreds of times. target training, clicker training, step up training, everything, they would just run away. They have even learnt to imitate the clicker noise. They know the clicker means food, but they just weren't curious enough to do target training and were too scared to step up.

If you read up, the general consensus is that your bonded birds will take years to bond with you, but you can still teach them things whilst you wait. What I found out is that my birds learnt best when they were alone and in an area specifically for training. So they wouldn't do anything if they were in their cage, on top of their cage or on their play-perch. I started target training

I had a long bird ladder that the birds would go on to transfer from their cage to their perch. When I only had 1 out of the cage and they went on it, i would pick the ladder up and take it out of the room. Then once
