(Spoilers Main) Am I stupid?

I have seen a lot of comments on how Jaime should be distancing himself from Cersei in the show, like he does in the books while he is in the Riverlands. I loved, loved, loved Jaime and Cersei in AFFC, but their arcs and characters are just in different situations in the show.

Jaime distances himself from Cersei in AFFC because he learns about her infidelities and that makes him reconsider their relationship; his idolization of Cersei is shattered. He reconsiders the past, thinking about how much of her "love" might have been just emotional manipulation, just like any of us might do after a breach of trust. He thinks about her unfair attitude towards him when she learned about his hand.

In the GoT world, Cersei is not nearly as insane or evil.

  • She doesn't order the murders of Robert's bastards;
  • She seems to understand Joffrey's not exactly right in the head, instead of being completely delusional about him;
  • She isn't mad and disappointed with Jaime when he returns without his hand;
  • She doesn't give people she mislikes to Qyburn, knowing he will torture them;
  • She doesn't seem to be as hateful and cruel, overall;
  • She seems to be genuinely concerned about her children, instead of letting her egomania cloud her judgement when thinking about their futures;
  • She doesn't seem as paranoid, especially because we see she is justifed in her "paranoia" - Myrcella was truly in a dangerous situation and Margaery does seem to be actually plotting against her and manipulating her son;
  • Her infidelities seem to be much more subdued (I believe we only learn about Lancel) and she doesn't seem to use sexual manipulation as much;
  • She isn't even close to the obsession and hatred of Tyrion we see in AFFC;
  • I won't even mention her terrible rulership and political decisions in AFFC, which are also barely there in the show (apart from arming the Faith militant, which may be one of the worst decisions overall, but still much better than ignoring the Iron bank, spending on ships, severing ties with the Tyrells because of her unjustifed paranoia and up-jumping idiots to important political positions). Also, her arming of the Faith seems more sensible in the show, considering her paranoia is at least partly justified.

Given all these point, there are almost no reasons for Jaime to distance himself from her. She is, overall, a much more decent human being, and their relationship is portrayed as waaay healthier than in the books.

This is just a logical consequence of changing some of the characters; they are going to have different arcs. There is no reason for us to want Jaime to sever his ties to Cersei when they are two relatively nice people supporting each other in a difficult situation. If this happens in the show via a Lancel reveal, it would look like checklist-ticking for points from the book and wouldn't really be logical.

TL;DR Cersei is a different character in the show and that means Jaime can't have the same feelings and thoughts we saw in AFFC. His arc should be different.

What are your thoughts on this?
