Spring Breakers: The single most misunderstood film of the past decade

I appreciate the write up. I do see where you enjoy it but I am not seeing why you think it is misunderstood. I mean, I get why people like it and why people don't but I don't know if that makes it misunderstood as if people are missing the point.

Korine does an amazing job of offering viewers a window into the horrors of reality. This is always going to put off a large portion of the audience because dealing with the bad in life is something we are all taught to avoid for the most part. KIDS? I will remember that movie forever and never watch it again. GUMMO? Same. It is really hard to stamp these movies as classic and even harder not recommending that people watch them. But these films of his are honest. There are people like Telly out there not getting punished for their actions and ruining lives for their own personal satisfaction (Korine wrote this movie not directed). There are towns like Xenia so ravaged by disaster that the rest of America ignores them because it is too hard to think about. Trash Humpers is more of the same "LOOK AT THIS TERRIBLE THING THAT PROBABLY EXISTS!!". And, of course, Alien. Or all of the Spring Breakers Characters. They really exist. Misanthropic, EDM obsessed, unintellectual monsters whose only concern is having a good time and trying to live like a celebrity even if it is only for one day and DAMN the consequences. They do nothing to better society and they basically refuse to contribute or appreciate the already charmed life they lead thanks to the hard work of their "boring" parents who know nothing about "living life". They exist in hoards (writing this makes me a little sad) but that is our current reality and Korine did a good job of making me look at it and then not want to look at it again.

If there is an argument about whether or not what Korine does is Art...Then it is Art. Is it good art? That is a matter of opinion. Are you wrong in your opinion? Of course not. Just like I am not wrong and the guy who says it is the worst movie ever made is not wrong. But you couldn't have posted this about..let's say...Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 and had such passionate rsponse about what is contributes to film culture. So for that great work.

I like the click-bate title. It is definitely NOT one of the most misunderstood films of the past decade and that shouldn't be an argument but hey...it got me to post. Maybe next post about a misunderstood film, start with links to criticisms you disagree with and argue against them? Just a thought. You seem open to opinion and able to get people discussing so offering both sides may spark an even more passionate debate. Right now your post seems like "THIS MOVIE IS THE BOMB! WHO AGREES?!?!"

I'd invite you to watch Lars von Trier's "The Idiots" which Spring Breakers made me think of almost immediately. I read some of the other posts and saw you were kind of new to Film watching/criticism/analysis as opposed to just turning your brain off for a couple hours. Good luck and I really hope you enjoy yourself!
