I mean it's on-going in the sense that same group of twitter people continually making an issue out of nothing and have been for seemingly ever.

For real though, I never seen this sentiment shared by anyone in Japan. I'm sure most people would be fine and happy if NJPW booked women, but it's no-ones demand and it's not a sexist thing. They've always been separate and at one point in time the women were bigger draws than the men.

Ultimately, just a really pointless discussion. Definitely the completely wrong hill to die on for gender equality in wrestling. Which in a different context is still a topic with a lot to talk about, even with Japan, maybe especially so.
