STEAM IS NOW SELLING MODS???

Thanks for the inspiration, excellent e-mail of yours.

I also made my own, as best as I could to express what I feel about it, even though english is also not my first language.

"Mr. Newell, I have been a customer at Steam and fan of Valve for roughly 7 years now. I have praised Steam for most of it's features, even defended Valve for some of the more controversial ones. Steam, in my eyes, always contributed tremendously for the sucess of PC gaming. As a customer, I will always be wanting excellency on my products and services, including a platform for my games.

But as of today, I can no longer support Valve. The decision to monetize mods goes beyond of what I deem acceptable. It is no longer about profit or helping modders with a legal form of income, it's about changing the essence of what a mod means. The modding community, up until now, have always been doing it as a hobby, a side-project or simple for fun. Mods have always been one of the biggest upsides of PC gaming, and while it would be nice to be able to help them financially, I think the new workshop feature of paid mods is the wrong approach.

While It might not happen immediately, over time modding will no longer be about fun, passion or helping the community, but instead, only about profits, if this feature continues to exist as it is. However, I agree that bigger projects can and should be able to profit out of it, but a 75% cut is not fair for their work.

An actual donation option via Steam would be a better and healthier way to support the modding scene, instead of the current propositions.

As a concerned customer, I hope this feature gets carefully looked at. Meanwhile, I will be avoiding purchases on Steam, so I can show that it actually matters for me and for the community that uses Steam' services.

Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Leonardo "Skyrius" Lopes."
