Is it still worth it to buy a New 2ds?

I would say yes, absolutely! The 3DS/2DS has a huge library of games and many games which I consider must-haves. Many games can be bought cheap, too, if money is also a factor. In addition they have a great Virtual Console and access to the DS-ware.

See it like that - you buy essentially a console/handheld on which you don't have to wait for releases a and have access to their vast library immediately. I don't think you will ever find yourself in a situation in which you would say "Man some games would be nice".

The 3ds/2ds were my main Nintendo gaming platform before the Switch (Wii U wasn't really my cup of tea) and it is great. I use it lot, even now. And I still find new games which I have to buy. And the last selling point - all the DS games (for the older DS system) run on the 3DS/2DS, too. So you have access to even more games, although, granted, some of those might be harder to come by. My partner just bought the 2DS, too. First new gaming system since PS2 and she couldn't have more fun with it.
