Stuck in a small town with no opportunity.

At the risk of sounding blunt it sounds like you are all over the place and without direction or desire. Add to that you are studying a field with really no significant benefits or business skills that will help.

Don't get me wrong I am all for a person's interest in history and I also love history watching many documentaries and reading when I can. BUT a history buff doesn't help finding a job.

So here is my suggestion........Even is small towns people need stuff or need services. What do you like to do? Paint? Build things? Mow grass? Internet?

I suggest starting something on your own. Offer mowing services or landscaping services. Offer handyman services. Offer to paint. Offer to walk dogs. Start something you find interesting and enjoyable. If good with the internet start a small ebay store. Find something that interests you and find wholesalers online where you can buy stuff in bulk. I started a small pocket knife business on ebay and although I don't have much time anymore so don't "expand" my selection I still do over $1000 a month and "net" about $150. Doesn't sound like much but I spend literally less than 4 hours a week. Yes that is only about $10 an hour BUT I do it not for the money per se but for the knowledge and education.

And SPEAKING about education don't study history. Get an AA degree which has a wide range of basic information taught from math to composition to economics to business. THEN go find a full-time job in town (along with your part-time "side" business and ebay store) and take classes part-time. Might take a few years BUT you will have a well rounded knowledge that employers really want (and need). BTW, do not even bother putting that supermarket job on a resume. It won't help. Simply show that time period as blank but explain it by saying you started your own (fill in the blank) business.

Success doesn't come easily and will take hard work and sacrifice BUT for those who are willing to work hard anything is achievable. If it WAS easy to succeed then everybody would do it but it is NOT easy. Vince Lombardi once said "The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will". Get that WILLPOWER and you can create your OWN success!!

BTW, I am not against history and I think it is great. But start your own side business and find a full-time job and motivate yourself. Then wherever the opportunities take you then take advantage of those. THEN when you are successful by all means take a few classes at night to learn history if you want. I think that is great!! But history will NOT create opportunities to succeed.
