This tacky tip jar sign.

To see people who have even worked in the industry arguing against that is mind boggling.

i absolutely hate to admit this, but congratulations, you managed to offend me over the internet. as in, you legitmately suceeded in upsetting me on a personal level, for which i am embarrassed to admit. so let me quickly boggle your mind some more.

in short, i have close friends who work in this industry, who own restaurants, and food chain franchises. this industry has helped me grow in so many ways over the years, and taught me things no curriculum ever could. i can confidently say some of the friends i've made over the years i've worked in this industry are as good as family to me.

i was an economics major who bartended for 2 years up until this past february, when i finally landed myself a management position that excites me daily. before this, however, i worked both front and back house, dishwashed, food prepped, butchered, filleted, cooked, bussed, served, and even managed a couple shifts. in my case, i have no direct work experience in the field that would have made me a shoe-in for the current role i'm in, only my proven hard work and putting myself in the right situations. but i can tell you for a fact, knowing i was overqualified as a bartender, the last 2 years i have experienced first-hand the ill-effects of our current job shortage just as much as the next person.

The supply|demand ratio of employees is so skewed that no employee has wiggle room...

you are right, these conditions are most definitely unfavorable for the unemployed, whilst providing minimal leverage for those currently employed and actively-seeking a better job...

...There's no changing that

...this is completely false. the economy is cyclical, the demand for labour will shift to a greater quantity, and things will improve. eras of depression and prosperity have existed for all of history. spewing ignorance, however, doesn't help - and at this point, frankly, neither does victimizing yourself or someone else who is privileged enough to even have the opportunity to work in a first world country. work hard, be grateful, and don't talk shit when you lack the required knowledge. seriously.
