To TAs who aren’t striking in solidarity with their fellow TAs: Why?

No strike clauses are only applicable for the duration of the contract. UAW 2865's contract was valid until June 30, 2022 (Article 34 section A), so they are allowed to strike now. "Written proposals for a successor agreement shall be presented to the University by the UAW no later than January 15, 2022." Article 34 section C from the contract.

I included section C just because it seems like they are striking every two years. I guess it's just to gain leverage when they introduce new contract, but section B makes it seem like UC can just keep the same contract no matter what the union says (don't quote me on that, I am not a lawyer)

My union just sues a lot (~2 per year), we strike close to never (its been 30 years). I guess the difference is we work there for ~30 years and Academic Student Employees only work there for ~4 years. In 2020 when the strike was happening for TAs I honestly thought it was stupid as the covid thing just happened, but I guess it makes sense as that is their only means of power and they will just keep doing it every two years forever.
