I worked as an assitant teacher in a primary school for a few months. One day I spotted a girl with bruises on her arms, legs and back. I asked her what happened but she was very reluctant. I took her to the office for first aid. Later other teachers inquired her and found out her father would get drunk sometimes and beat her. They contacted the police. Her father admitted that he would beat her because he saw her as a bad omen (her mother died while giving birth to her and few months later her elder brother died in an accident). He was sent to jail and his daughter is now in his relatives care.

It happened in India. India still is very backdated in terms of women empowerment. Many people still think that women are nothing but objects.
