Teaching kids the earth is only 6000 years old and other religious absurdities constitutes intellectual child abuse.

In looking at the record we should all be able to agree that slowly we evolved from our common ancestors with Chimpanzees. It's seen in skulls and bones found up to the point we became Homo sapiens. We still share 98.6% DNA with chimpanzees. These differences in genotype and phenotype over time make sense in terms of natural selection to me, although that is just the most convincing theory so far, in the future it could be disproved potentially. If your DNA & mutations over time allowed you to be a successful animal you'd survive to pass on those genes, if not your genetic legacy died over time. Makes sense.

As for the idea that there is a designer, I can understand why humans think this. Sometimes nature, space, how well are bodies work and our instincts seem too synchronised to our environment.

No convincing evidence exists that there is this overseeing designer though, which is the main reason I'm atheist. It seems intelligent design was a way for Christians to continue the idea of god after scientific discoveries had been made. They didn't want to be proven wrong, because if they were wrong about the origin of the species, people might think they were wrong about everything.

I'm fine with a belief in a designer if your just a deist but not part of a religious group. Being a Christian, Muslim or Jew seems primarily an accident of birth so far as I can see. Deism makes some sense even to someone like me, after all the world is beautiful and so organised in many ways. I can wrap my head around the idea.

However, i still don't believe in that designer. Mutations and suffering make me think such a designer is cruel beyond belief. Although life is wonderful for many, there is too much unnecessary pain to like such a designer, let alone worship one. It seems ignorant to constantly praise a god for making your life great, whilst in the mean time millions commit suicide, suffer mental anguish, physical illness, agony and sorrow. It seems like optimism and wishful thinking that anaesthetises the believer. I'm sure it's consoling, but I think it isn't honest reasoning, no evidence is available and it seems callous to worship such a designer given all that designer fails to achieve in the lives of others.

If there is such a designer that people teach of, teach that he designed evolution. Teach that he designed what the scientific community know so far to be true, don't just make up bullshit to fit with the Bible. So long as there honest about the world I'm fine they believe in a designer. Given they don't know a designer exists, I don't just see why there not just completely honest about the world. Ultimately, nobody knows so it is lying if you say it's true a designer exists.
