Why do therapists do this? (Mirroring?)

That made me grin, sounds a lot like my 3rd T. “Trying to swear on her own”....that’s exactly it. And the endearing thing about it is I don’t really think it’s tied to trying to get on my level, but instead something in her that thinks a profanity is the only way to really express that thought, but she doesn’t do it often enough for it to fall out naturally at all. Almost like she’s scrolling through how to articulate what she means and keeps passing up things that won’t work until she can get there. I get it because I do the same thing a lot, but I’m usually doing it in the opposite direction, trying to figure out how to find better words than just summing it up with a profanity!

It’s true, the profanity she typically ends up using is more mild than I would go, so there is something kind of adorable about it.
