Is there any particular reason my WW2 veteran Grandfather hated the English?

It depend, it could’ve been a negative experience with one particular soldier, my great uncle hated a particular regiment of the army after WW2.

He was in with a regiment and was wounded, his friend from Northern Ireland who was from a Catholic background turned around & ran back to help him, his friend was court marshalled and executed. His death is counted as being KIA.

My great-uncle, a proud Englishman, a proud British man and most importantly for all, a proud Army man was eventually sent home with full honours before going into a mental institution for 15 years before my grandmother got him out, he said it was to keep him quiet and know his place.

That is not widespread of the British Army, it may not even be true but my great-uncle swore by it and he believed it was because of the mans religious background. I wish to believe it wasn’t true but living in Northern Ireland now myself, I could believe it.
