Thoughts on paying for or contributing to own engagement ring?

I am sorry and SO many people are against this but they are typically young and not experienced in life! Go hunt deals. Do not go to a chain shop and pay a huge markup, this will help immensely! Life is so much easier if you start not in debt from a ring and the event of a wedding! I promise, those things are not what matters in life!
Please do not think I am opposed to jewelry because I have a 2.2 carat diamond that we paid cash for under 5k and this was not 30 years ago! GIA Certified Excellent cut, Oval, VS1 color G so it was well worth the hunt. Tons of unmarried people have fallen for marketing ploys and unfortunately it didn't work out! Take advantage and grab something you will LOVE! It may surprise you. Once married, you will have a lifetime of jewelry to buy. Lots of room for huge surprises and waste!
