TIFU by canceling my gym membership.

My situation was more like what you expected. My girlfriend is the type that can be pressured into anything and they didn't adequately explain what she was signing. They made it seem like she was paying substantially less than what she was for a personal trainer. I took one look at the contract and died laughing. 3 grand over 12 months, regardless of whether or not she utilized the services.

Went into the Gym and told them to cancel it. Guy keeps going on, trying anything to make sure the contract sticks, "You can't cancel unless you're moving and only if there isn't a qualifying Gym within the area, it's in your contract details", straight up refusing to do so unless I gave him a "good reason". Actually even tried the intimidation route because he was like 275 of pure muscle and I'm stick thin, a little over half his weight and no muscle at all. Started actively flexing his muscles, making overly vicious gestures and stuff.

Had to be an asshole at this point, I was tired of explaining under the law (Consumer Protection crap) that I wasn't required to give him any sort of "reason" within a certain time period, regardless of what the contract said.. Said as much a bunch of times from the beginning. I had to act like I was 5 years old and keep repeating "I don't have to give you any reason". Finally, he got pissed enough that he gave in and walked away. Told my girlfriend to give the front desk the portion of the contract that is essentially a notice that she was cancelling the contract, front desk tried to tell her she didn't need to but I was already mad at this point from having to deal with them that I took the paper from her, recorded the incident and slapped it down on the desk.

My girlfriend was pissed at me though "for embarrassing her" despite the fact that she asked me to get her out of it. I had to explain to her that they could claim they didn't receive notice of contract cancellation. Still was pissed at me. Women.
