TIFU by shouting the N word at the top of my lungs for my job and making all my neighbors think I'm racist.

It sucks that capitalism has created conditions where you have to choose between paying your bills and traumatizing your neighbors.

You seem like a well-intentioned person, and I recognize the difficult position you're in with what your company is requiring from you, but at the same time... this gives me "just following orders" vibes. Where do you draw the line? What would happen if you just refused to caption the N word?

Instead of you having to apologize to all your neighbors, your company says "Look u/CannibalRed, we really need you to say the N word or you don't get paid." That's not a good look for them. That's the kind of email (or recording) that you leak and watch the media rip them apart. Now THEY have to publicly defend their decision to make people repeat hate speech.

(And yes, there are interesting points to be made about the first amendment and accessibility. I get it. But personally, I'd rather give up my "right" to say this word than to see it continuously inflicted on my black neighbors. Germany outlawed Nazi speech and they don't seem to be suffering for it.)

Again, it's easy for me as an internet stranger to say "just refuse to do this part of your job!" I know it's more complicated for you. But I'm super bummed at how the overwhelming sentiment in this comment thread seems to be "well OBVIOUSLY you have to keep saying the N word since it's for WORK, so just make a nice gift basket for your neighbors!"
