TIL In 1985 a drug smuggler jettisoned 40 kilograms (76 pounds) of cocaine from his airplane over Georgia's Chattahoochee National Forest. A black bear (later dubbed 'Pablo EskoBear') found and ate ALL of the cocaine and died of an inconceivably massive overdose.

He also had 12(?) Krugerrands on him... all of foodwhich was typical of Thornton.

A bit before his death, he was leaving the Merrick Inn. He always left through the patio(its surrounded by a low brick was smd some hedges) to get to his car in the back lot. When he got to the gate, someone fired on him. It was his ballistic vest that saved his life.

At the time, he was under investigation, and as such, was persona non grata with LFUCG Div. of Police(his former employer), and state and federal authorities. They wouldn't investigate the hit! This one rogue cop, Ralph Ross(who was later convicted for illegal wiretaps on Drew and Jimmy Lambert), who was leading the investigation for the dope stuff, convinced the others he faked his own hit.
