TIL that in the 1996 movie "Bound," which was the Wachowskis' directorial debut, the lesbian sex scenes were choreographed by feminist writer and sex educator Susie Bright. The MPAA threatened an NC-17 rating on the first cut because a sex scene appeared too realistic due to "hand sex."

Yes! One of the best movies ever made. In fact, the reason I watched The Matrix was because of how good Bound was.

Meanwhile, I actually hated Matrix when it first came out - I thought it didn't make sense as a story. The whole concept finally made sense to me when 2 & 3 came out.

BTW the whole concept behind the Matrix is that there was not philosophy behind Matrix. They just wanted to make an homage to anime. Things like the motorcycle chase from Akira, robots from Robotech, ships from Starblazers, underground cities like in Neon Genesis, live machines like Ghost in the Shell, the final battle scene like Dragonball-Z, etc.

Every scene from the Matrix trilogy was inspired by some anime, and that's it. At first I thought they were trying to go for some philosophical point of view, like in Star Wars or something, but nope. When 2 & 3 came out, I figured out that they just wanted to make a really cool live-action anime... and that's it.

To me, that was completely brilliant, which is why I loved 2 & 3 when 1 made no sense to me. I finally figure out that all that retarded mumbo-jumbo, was SUPPOSED to be retarded mumbo-jumbo, which is what anime basically is. If you look at actual anime, it's basically the stupidest dialogue on the planet.. stuff that no adult would ever be expected to say out loud. The entire trilogy is like exploring a "mall of anime philosophy."

This is vastly different from most people's expectations and experiences with the trilogy, where they mistakenly expected some sort of traditional meaning or storytelling, instead of something more nihilistic.

The Matrix trilogy is a lot more subversive and self-aware than what most people think. It's sort of like how Starship Troopers was making fun of the book it was based on.
