I'm not sure I agree, the vast majority of people are just straight, it wouldn't make sense to use something to control when the majority of people are the same. Unless you were talking about how many people you sleep with, not sexual identity. Then I would agree, because there's always been intense shaming associated with sleeping with lots of people, for women especially. But we were talking about sexual identity, as in the labels. I think people forgot only about 2-3% of the population is gay, and only like 5% is bisexual.

I think the labels only make sense for gay, lesbian or bisexual people, because that changes the sex of the people who will approach them. So the label has a function, I think most other labels are just for attention.
