TIL the only two countries on the planet that make it illegal to pass a stopped and loading/unloading school bus are US and Canada

TL;DR: Avoid driving in Quebec because they will stop you for ANY reason to get the fine money; especially for passing a school bus, which makes sense, but....

In Quebec they take this seriously. I was on Dorchester (now René Lesvesque), which is THE major east west downtown street in central Montreal. It is three lanes in both directions. There is/was a planter in between these two sets of three lanes you cannot easily climb. It was also a day where there was a massive snowstorm; one where if the car in front of you goes, you go too because you cannot see the signal light, or anything.

I was in the “fast” left lane. There was a school bus unloading three lanes over in the above noted conditions (I did not see ‘cause you watch the car in front). The cops pulled over dozens of cars in one shot. They did not give a rats ass about the conditions. It was a $1000 fine... IN 1983!!!
