TIL There are 41 countries that recognize sign language as an official language

I hope it’s not rude to offer a little advice, one sensitive detector of patterns to another.

In general, similarities like this between two language traditions as geographically and culturally remote as German and Australian English can be assumed to be a type of “false friend” rather than indicating an etymological origin. At least, until evidence suggests otherwise. We must remember that there are only so many ways to spell words. Many languages employ broadly similar spelling rules, and many of us use basically the same alphabet. There are bound to be many times more incidental overlaps in orthography than genuine linguistic connections, just based on statistics alone.

It’s a mental guardrail I use myself to protect against my own desire to detect meaningful patterns in the world. It’s far too easy for even a highly-capable brain to detect spurious patterns where none exists. Wise minds know that apophenia can come for us all.
