Transgender Megathread

Visibility didn't really help the trans community that much.

Back in 2013 everyone was like 'ooh the transgender tipping point its our time now' but I don't really see that much of an improvement in the quality of life for most trans people. Sure there are a few more transgender celebrities but if anything transphobia has become more vocal and targeted, with politicians focusing on trans people as a punching bag. At the same time public discourse around transgender issues tends to be dominated by people from the extremes, who get a kick out of being visibly gender non-conforming and who want to 'smash the gender binary' and its just unrepresentative of most trans people.

On an individual level, trans people are being more scrutinized than ever, with everyone wanting to sound off their opinions on how trans people should date, play sports or even what bathrooms they should use. It used to be that you could fly under the radar if you kept your head down.

Or maybe things are better I dunno, maybe I just wanted to have one trans opinion in this megathread which wasnt Jjust basically 'TRANS PEOPLE ARENT REAL AND I WISH THEY WOULD STOP'
