Trudeau government outlines five-year, $148-million plan to attract more foreign students to Canadian universities

Yeah, that's fair, or I went to university longer ago than this year. And I was one of those foreign students.

For what it's worth, it was the rich kids from Toronto you need to be worried about if you're worried about driving up rents in small university towns. Sure there were a couple rich kids from the gulf states whose parents probably just bought a house, but the majority of international students I knew were already paying high tuition, and were, you know, students, so they tend to hunt for the lowest prices.

The idea that "foreign students drive up our rents" just doesn't pass basic muster. It is just another one of the "other" arguments that "others" are coming and taking jobs/women/welfare/housing, whatever.
