No, I disagree. He had no good option once the magnitude of the virus became clear. He could either: 1) adopt a maximalist approach with lockdowns and quarantines with the associated economic collapse, or 2) adopt a casual approach and hope it blew over. He did (2) which was really the only option available to him from a political perspective.

As we've seen under the Biden administration (which actually had a vaccine the entire time), there's basically nothing a President can do to halt the virus. Stuff like "contact tracing" is a complete nonstarter in a society that won't even wear masks.

Also, as you're apparently unaware, the vaccines were not announced until after the election. So hiding his vaccine status was of no electoral benefit or detriment to him.
