You are correct that it does sound crazy, but here is some info that strongly supports the tin-foil idea that pharmaceutical companies will do whatever they can get away with. The TL;DR is that Bayer acknowledged that they knowingly sold HIV contaminated medicine to US citizens. After they were caught and prevented from selling the drugs in the US, they continued to sell the drugs over seas. Interesting facts from AVERT.org show that there was a steep increase in HIV cases from 1983-1985 (from 2,803 in '83 to 20,303 by the end of '85), the same time period that Bayer was selling the drug in the US. Bayer paid out 300M in 2010 to cover litigation from 20,000 cases of HIV infection. How many people died before they had a chance to see any sort of compensation? That is easily a low number of people affected by these drugs. To refute another common thought: I'd say the vast majority of providers would be outraged and a shitstorm would ensue if anything like that was every revealed. All this about Bayer came about in 2010. After 2010 Bayer's stock price shot up to all time highs, doubling the companies value. There has been pretty little by way of public outcry. Now here is an interesting bit of information about vaccine makers: They are immune to civil lawsuit. Bayer posted profits, and got filthy rich after being sued for selling AIDS to people in the 1980's. Imagine what they could have done if there were zero repercussions to their knowingly infecting tens of thousands of people with HIV? What government that required people to take those drugs would then try to expose those responsible for this level of travesty? How many Americans contracted EBOLA? How do you think that would have played out if that number was greater than 20,000 people and the federal government and the wealthiest companies on earth were responsible?
