Tyler’s Response to Cate’s Mental Health.

One moment is Tyler in a nutshell for me, and it's not calling Catelynn a name, making a disgusted face at her, or gossiping about her: It's the end of S6E4: Animal Instincts. Cate bought that ill-advised pig. She brings it home and realizes how overwhelming it'll be to care for. She gets into a late-night fight with Tyler and someone (either her or him) suggests she go seek mental help. It was an emotional night. When Producer Jessica enters their living room the next morning and finds Cate upset on the couch, she asks Tyler what's going on. He smiles slightly, shrugs, scoffs and feigns ignorance, shakes his head, as if to say, "Who knows what's up with that crazy broad? Just my wife again!" He had been up arguing with her, watching her cry, agreeing she needs help. He knew what was happening. That was not a time to act dumb. His wife is suffering alone on the couch, clearly relishes the hug Jessica gives her, and ALL Tyler cares about in that moment is signaling to the crew and viewers that he's fine and doesn't know what the heck went wrong. Anything "supportive" or motivational that he said to her after that is completely moot to me, and I consider it in service of his brand as her long-suffering, wise and supportive husband. I'm sure as an old friend he's extremely attached and does get sad when she's sad, but he doesn't know how to show the actual love and compassion that might actually be a help to her.
