Vanderpump Rules S06E09 - Call Me Jason - Post Episode Discussion

I’m so sorry that happened to you, truly, and I’m so so glad that you were brave and strong enough to do that. That said, I think there may be some differences. For starters, I don’t know your situation, but I hope that a single modeling gig/offending a single creepy photographer was not the potential line between you having enough money to keep your and your family’s roof over your heads, and not. An adult has to consider the potential consequences of offending a man who can literally ruin your entire life, and your ability to support yourself and your family forever. Mira Sorvino was a hot commodity before she turned him down, and I suspect most of us can’t name a thing she’s done in the last decade. When the stakes are high, the incentive to brush the warning signs off before it’s too late and to feel trapped when it’s clear that things are not okay is strong. I applaud and admire and support your ability to stand up for yourself (and your foresight in bringing a supportive friend, which, again, was not the case for many of these women, who instead of a support system found a whisper network telling them to just shut up and deal with it or face the consequences) and I wish every girl in the world felt as empowered and confident as you did. I just think that for many women, their situation and even upbringing makes that difficult, and to expect women to ignore all the potential negative consequences and run is unrealistic. It is much easier to ask men to not be rapists/abusers/harassers/assaulters than it is to ask women to gamble their income, career, reputation, and even safety in these situations. You shouldn’t have had to run; neither should they.
