I don't know why I have to repeat myself a third time, people being obsessive about content creators is not an idol culture thing. I never argued that and I never will.

It's not the streamers fault either - you completely misunderstood that part - I was talking about how the logic behind the backlash is usually still easy to grasp, no matter how bogus it is.

But this particular situation, this particular outlet of possessive behavior, is heavily steeped in idol culture and something that could have hardly happened anywhere else.

How else could we get in a situation where the simple act of interacting with a man in a mixed gender group is seen as overstepping a boundary by a portion of your hardcore fans? Surely, the streamer must not have publicly interacted with a man before for this to be an issue. Why is that? Well...

I mean imagine explaining the current controversy to a complete outsider to the VTuber scene without mentioning the word "idol" or explaining the concept even once. I don't know how you would manage that, without making Kronii's content sound a lot more weird and targeted towards obsessive fans than it actually is.

Like I said, maybe she would have still gathered obsessive fans, maybe they would have found other outlets to be possessive of her. Maybe it's even a good thing she could weed out the creeps with a situation that is so benign and of no real consequence to anyone. But I just find it hard to argue that HL's idol influence had no impact on this sequence of events.
