"Once upon a time, there was a little girl whose parents were too incompetent to refuse her adopting an incredibly dangerous and scary wild animal. Over time, the wild animal grew somewhat tame for the girl, but the girl remained alone in the world because everyone else was scared silly by it, and it was still extremely dangerous. Without friends or family, the tamed but extremely dangerous animal became the girl's only friend. But her lack of human interaction after her childhood meant she never developed any feelings of kinship for humanity, so this didn't bother her any."

This strikes me as a weird story, but I have a hard time seeing it any other way.
