Not only have they shipped our jobs and technology, many innovators are too repulsed by America to set up shop here. Dr. Hugo de Garis (AI Genetic Algorithm researcher) speaks very bluntly about America vs China in regards to research funding in the documentary Singularity or Bust:
Greedy US leaders threw us under the bus long ago. They abandoned the particle accelerator in Texas, the one that was going to be bigger than CERN. If the conservatives had allowed funding the project would be completed by now and America would have the largest super collider in the world. But we don't and we're so far behind that we'll never catch up. Fermilab Tevatron was shutdown in 2012 due to lack of funding. Even NASA is defunded and now has to bum rides from Russia.
So we have very little publicly funded innovation and mirroring that is the disappearing state funding for higher-ed. Why train people for jobs that don't exists, especially in this economy, amiright? And the jobs that exists aren't willing to pay you a living wage. And they expect us to pay the taxes (with the wages we don't get anymore) which pay for the publicly funded higher education and science and engineering endeavors instead of having the 91% tax rates for the wealthiest 1% that made this country great during and after WWII.
If you have the skills to follow the jobs and technology DO IT! Don't feel bad about abandoning this country. Our leaders certainly didn't have any qualms about abandoning us. Our leaders can pick up and leave if things get too bad here, they're certainly rich enough. Hell, they all probably own apartments in London or Hong Kong in case they need to "bug out". No matter what happens to us, due to their decisions that only screw us over, nothing will affect them enough to change a system that benefits only them. They have no steak or interest in making America better for the rest of us. Get out while you can before they finish the job of screwing us over. They are both the foreign and domestic threat they warn us about. Leave, and do whatever you can to bring your loved ones with you!
