Weekly Discussion - August 12 2019

I have just a.. really dumb question that I’m self conscious about. I do general meditation every now and then, just thinking to myself “in and out” with breathing and do my best to just focus on the in and out part.

My problem is that I can have multiple trains of thought at the same time. I can be thinking “in and out” while I’m taking the appropriate breaths, but also be thinking about the shrimp I ate earlier or that I’m having trouble breathing through my nose and I’m thinking it at the same time as I’m thinking “in and out.”

I guess my question is, is it normal to be able to think multiple thoughts at once? I only ask because when I tried to explain it to my friends they said they couldn’t and I don’t want to come across as a prick or crazy by asking people. I just want to know if it’s normal or not I guess, because it can often get in the way of my meditating.
