Weekly Hiring Questions Thread - July 18

Hey everyone,

I made a mistake a few years ago and I was wondering how bad it will be for me during the background investigation.

My first job was working at a grocery store as a service clerk for about 3 and a half years. I made the mistake of stealing product and I was involuntarily terminated. Everyone there loves me and they all believe that I was one of the best employees they've had. My boss told me that the only information they can legal give out is the date of hire, position title, salary, and date of leaving. My record is completely clean and I'm a great employee but this is making me so nervous. I'm afraid that maybe they're gonna answer "no" if asked if I'm eligible for rehire, or if they say that I was involuntarily terminated, or if they say I stole. They aren't supposed to but I'm still very nervous.

I'm currently working as a Security Officer and my boss absolutely loves me and I'm one of the best employees here. I have good references from this company. Will the background investigator even contact the grocery store? What should I do?
