Weekly Question Thread (17 APR - 23 APR)

I doubt I'll get an answer by posting this in the thread so late, so I'll likely post again in the thread for next week.

I'm in a fairly specific position at the moment, and my chain of command and other unit resources aren't being any help with the situation, so I figured I'd ask here and see if anyone else has been in this situation.

I did a few years as an 11B (infantry, airborne) on active duty. Took a semester off after my ETS, and joined the National Guard as a 35P (cryptologic linguist). I do have a Top Secret clearance because of a weird situation (I had it while infantry, the National Guard did not pay for the clearance), which is up for reinvestigation soon. The problem is that my National Guard unit is a relatively new one, and is sort of the redheaded step-child of the state. Basically, we have no funding. As it is now, they don't think they will be able to send me to the schools for 35P for 2-3 years.

At this point, I'm trying to see if it would be possible for me to drop a packet and begin the process of attempting National Guard Special Forces. I don't belive I owe any time to my current unit that will keep me here because they haven't spent any money for schools or clearances on me.

Anyone with personal experience and knowledge, even anecdotal, doing this?
