I think there is a lot of off base rhetoric around him. I think it’s very obvious that he is obsessed with pushing humanity forward. That is his motivation, not wealth. He has a mindset of ‘is this action going to advance humanity?’ If the answer is no, he doesn’t do it. He has been working non stop at this sort of stuff for 10 years. His employees say he sleeps in his office regularly. He probably works 70-80 hours a week. The stuff he is working on is all cool stuff that, for some reason, many people are annoyed with. He is advancing aerospace technology far faster than any government ever has at 1/10 the cost. Space is cool, not sure when the zeitgeist decided otherwise. Electric cars are cool. Tesla has a bunch of patents for electric cars. They’re all open source, meaning other companies can use the tech freely. He wants other companies to move towards electric as well. He has a very top down view of humanity and it’s trajectory. People say he should use his money to help with hunger and poverty. He’s more concerned with what will happen to humanity if we don’t move towards a green future and become an interplanetary species. It’s a fact that extinction will come for us if we don’t do these things.
