What are sayings you grew up hearing only to find out they were unique to your family?

“Hot dogs and potatoes” for Murphy’s Law.

My grandmother lived down the shore with us every summer growing up. Cousins, uncles, aunts, siblings... so many people in a small house. We needed a lot to feed us but on a small budget, so my grandmother would make a dish that was just cut up hot dogs with slices of potatoes. But when she would ask us in the early afternoon on the beach how much we wanted, we would reply “not a lot! We’re not that hungry!” Fast forward to dinner when she wouldn’t make a lot and we would be starving she’d scream “hot dogs and potatoes!” It happened the other way too, we would say we were starving and then she would make a ton. Come dinner time, we wouldn’t want a lot. Some might say she could have waited closer to dinner to ask, but I think she liked the drama of it. 20 years later, even after her passing, we use that expression and smile.
