What are your thoughts on credit cards?

I get 1.5% cash back on all credit card purchases with no fees, which is nice.

I'll tell you another story that is more important. I've always hated debt, so much so that I've never had it except for my credit card that I never pay interest on.

I recently tried to get a mortgage. No where accepted me. All the banks said “i didn't have enough credit accounts.” For some back ground, I make high 6 figures income and have enough cash on hand to pay my entire mortgage off immediately. One of the big banks I tried to get approved from I've been a customer at for 15 years, they know my income and account balance and still wouldn't approve me even with 50% down.

I had to use a smaller lender for nontradional credit which puts my interest rate 1.5% over market and that's with 20% down.

So yeah, pay attention to your credit even if you hate debt.
