What has been your biggest “close call moment” where you could have died or been seriously injured?

I'm from Europe and was selling books (door-to-door) in California as a summer job. The first day, selling alone on the 4th of July, I also remember it was Saturday (now I can see how stupid it was, but the US company has no problem with sending us to annoy people on holiday).

It was around 5 PM, totally tired (knocking and selling from 8 AM), I had a flat tire on my bike, and I was looking into the map on the crossroads because I was trying to figure out where to go next as I reached the border of my "sales territory". Around me just some fields and a golf park bordering something like a lower-middle-class neighborhood. I didn't even notice when it happened, but the streets were completely empty due to the holiday celebrations.

Suddenly a car stopped by me, an older Ford pickup model, with 2 men in their twenties, in sweaty tank tops, looking really odd and kind of nervous. One of them was trying to start a conversation, what I'm doing, where I'm going, blah blah. I was trying to go away but he was persistent. The second guy looked around the street and then get out of the car and when he saw I have a flat tire, he was convincing me to go with them and they will repair it for me. I politely declined and tried to go away from them, but he was already grabbing my bike as the second one was getting out too.

Then, out of blue, some older but well-built man has appeared from behind me. Probably the two guys didn't notice him coming either, because they looked really surprised and shocked. Then he started to talk to me like we have known each other for years, he also said he brought a flat tire kit to repair my bike and ask if I waited long. The first guy dropped my bike without a word, and they both get out as fast as they can with tires squealing.

I was relieved like never ever before or after in my life. Then we chat for a while. He was on his way from the hospital (after visiting his friend who suffered a mild heart attack) to the city center for the fireworks, and he had some kind of sudden prompting to leave his car at home and walk. First time after a long time, probably because he realized how can be life fragile after what happened to his friend. Some kind of divine butterfly effect.

Since then I believe in guardian angels. I would be probably kidnapped, raped, maybe even killed.
