One day he offhandedly told me that he would dump me if I ever got fat

What a terrible human being. Like... fuck. Early on in a relationship I inadvertently if not caused then greatly helped along a girl into an eating disorder and it utterly haunts me to this day.

I was super active and liked to be healthy, she was far from unhealthy but wanted to lose a few pounds and get a bit fitter. Unfortunately she lost a lot of weight very quickly because she was making it all come back up.

And being the genius I am, encouraged it. I had no idea what she was doing and was very uneducated on such matters. All I knew was she wanted to drop weight and she was succeeding, so I kept telling her over and over how amazing she was looking and what a good job she was doing and so on. It warped the entire thing in her head and now she was doing it for me because I wanted her to be skinny.

A year later she told me what was going on and it was like getting smacked in the head with a very large mallet. It is hands down the most clueless I have ever been about anything so important in my entire life and I’m still furious that I somehow managed not to notice.

So yeah. People like that can just go fuck themselves. Eating disorders are no joke.
