What is the closest you have ever come to dying?

I post this a lot so here is my original post and a reply I made going further into detail.

Some guys were trying to beat me or rob or something, I don't know what exactly. I was walking down an alley/bike trail under the skytrain around 2am when a pickup truck full of guys started chasing me. I dove into the small wooded area, probably only 8 feet away from them. They got out of the truck and were looking for me, swearing and I'm pretty sure I saw a baseball bat. My phone was dead so I couldn't call for help and I just remember thinking "So this is what people who are murdered think/feel before they die." I was terrified, but at the same time almost acceptant of my fate since I had no way to escape. Eventually they gave up and backed away. I waited for probably 20 minutes in the wooded area before climbing out. When I got out I saw the truck was parked at the end up the alley, waiting for me to come out. I ran through the brush till I reached the part where they couldn't drive. The second they saw me, they accelerated down that alley so fast trying catch me I was pretty sure they would. I barely made it away and when I reached the park on the otherside I saw them on the road beside it speeding away.

I had seen them slowly driving around the area earlier when I was walking and got a bad feeling from them, so I slowed down to avoid them. When I thought they were gone I continued on, but they must have seen me and turned around after a while. When they turned down the alley they almost immediately started to speed up, so I started running and then the horrifying realization that I wouldn't be able to outrun them hit me so I jumped into the wooded area. They were out of the truck so fast I was amazed they didn't come into the wooded area after me. They had actually turned off the engine and light while waiting for me, so I wouldn't know they were still there. Really fucked up. I've heard people talking about them on public transit since then as well, so I've made a point to never walk in that area at night again.
