What is a controversial question you want to ask?

Non life threatening

The attempted suicide rate for pre-transition transgender people is 41%. I wouldn't exactly call that non life threatening.

what gender you choose to follow

Gender isn't a choice unfortunately. If you're transgender then there's no way to just flick a switch and become cis, (Latin term meaning "Not trans") and vice versa. From what current evidence shows, transgender people are transgender from birth, and it's caused by sex hormones not being fired properly during certain stages of development in the womb.

Therapy has been attempted, but it worked about as well as Conversion Therapy and is now seen as malpractice. We also don't have a way to modify brain structure if that really is the issue, so that's out of the question. So far transitioning is the only working treatment for the condition.

Sex reassignment surgery has also been proven to lower the suicide rate for transgender people to around 4%. It may not be down to the same level as the general population at around 1%, but it's far better than the original 41%.
