I'm surprised Indian mythology is not up there.

An interesting example is the Garuda Purana, in which punishments for every type of sin are defined. Some as follows:

Andhakupam

Despite having resources, those who do not help the needy and persecute those who do good deeds. Leaving such people in the midst of wild animals as a punishment or throwing them in a well which contains poisonous animals like lion, tiger, eagle, snake and scorpion is called Andhakupam punishment.

Manjush
People who keep others in captivity or imprisoned on earth are punished. Where a person is tortured with molten iron.
Krumi Bhojanam
Insulting the guests and using others for their own benefit gets Krimibhojanam punishment. Under this punishment, such people are left in the midst of insects and snakes.
Mahavichi
It has been said that the people who kill cows have to suffer torture of superstition. Here there are only huge thorns of blood and iron on each side. It has thorns similar to Vajra which are punished and tortured by pricking the organism.
Raurav
Those who give false witness find a place in hell called Raurav where they are pierced with burning arrows of iron.
And the list goes on...

There are also some really interesting creatures conjured up that has, shall I daresay, inspired a lot of western mythology too. Some more examples here.
