The thing is, they do use the fear of communism that some immigrants bring to sell them on the nuttier culture war stuff. And it works because as you might guess, this group has less experience with democracy than pretty much any other voter. And it also doesn’t help that a lot of immigrants bring prejudices from back home that the far right preys on.

Like, your experience with communism didn’t suck because of multiculturalism or even because of a social safety net. It sucked because saying the wrong thing at the wrong time could cost you your life, you had no due process if that happened to you, and you had no way of knowing that it didn’t have to be like that. You risked your life to live in a democracy for protection from that, and it’s certainly not Democrats who seem to actively want to tear that down.
