What is the difference between Jesus (fathered by a god, mothered by a woman) and Hercules (fathered by a god, mothered by a woman)?

Most scholars, even in the textual criticism arena, agree that Jesus was a real person.

You are referring to the statements in the Wikipedia.org article Historicity of Jesus and Historical Criticism.

The term scholar is extremely important in that sentence and is defined as someone who has sought advanced education in one particular field of study. Scholars are not historians, archeologists, nor anthropologists who are detached, independent, and unbiased towards the results of their work.

Wiktionary.org defines scholar as "A student; one who studies at school or college, A specialist in a particular branch of knowledge, A learned person; a bookman."

Your comment, above, reads equally as "Most devote and dedicated Christians that went on to college to study Christianity or on to Seminary to become Preachers agree that Jesus was a real person." Your scholars are only using biblical interpretation to get the results that they desire. In this particular argument those scholar's field of study was religion, Christianity, and Jesus.

Quoting from Wiki - "Historical criticism, also known as the historical-critical method or higher criticism, is a branch of literary criticism that investigates the origins of ancient text in order to understand "the world behind the text".

The textual criticism arena to which you refer for these religious Christian scholars is the Bible. So, they are using their higher education (in religion) in their religious beliefs(Christianity) and the text of the Bible to prove that Jesus was real.

These scholars to which you refer are not historians and can not be considered as independent, unbiased researchers. Nor can using the Bible by means of Biblical interpretation to prove that the Bible is real and therefore Jesus was real be considered valid, historic, unbiased research.

This lacks any tangible historic method of determination. Quoting from Wiki - "Historical method comprises the techniques and guidelines by which historians use primary sources and other evidence, including the evidence of archaeology, to research and then to write histories in the form of accounts of the past."

But as there are no (zero) historic facts or evidence behind the mythology of Jesus, this is all that Christian scholars have to use.
